Ashland High School music programs excel at MICA festival earning multiple medals

During the recent School Committee meeting on April 9, 2025, Ashland Public Schools celebrated the achievements of its music department, highlighting the success of local students at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association (MICA) Adjudication Festival. This event saw participation from approximately 10,000 students across the state, showcasing the talents of 165 bands and 96 choruses at the middle and high school levels.

The Ashland High School concert bands received commendable recognition, with both the White and Blue bands earning silver medals. Additionally, the Ashland Middle School wind ensemble achieved a gold medal, reflecting the high standards of musical education in the district. The Ashland High School concert choir also performed admirably, securing a silver medal for their efforts.

Mary Namath, the choir director, shared insights into their recent performance, which included three pieces: an acapella song, a piece in a world language, and a third selection. The choir's acapella piece, titled "Connected," is set to be featured in their upcoming spring concert, scheduled for May 15 at 7 PM. This concert will focus on elevating LGBTQ+ voices, indicating a commitment to inclusivity and representation within the school's music program.
