Gig Harbor Women's Co-op launches community time bank to enhance connections

In a recent meeting, the Gig Harbor City Council recognized the efforts of a newly established community service nonprofit organization, the Gig Harbor Women's Co-op. Founded in May 2024, the co-op aims to empower women by fostering community connections through the exchange of skills, services, and time.

The organization addresses the societal pressures women face, often expected to excel in multiple roles, from caregivers to professionals. In a world dominated by curated social media portrayals, the co-op emphasizes the importance of authentic human connections over perceived perfection. Since its inception, the co-op has developed a community time bank, accumulating nearly 10,000 hours of service. Members earn time credits by helping others, which they can then use to receive assistance for their own needs. In just seven months, the co-op organized over 600 activities and events, with plans to expand their outreach significantly in 2025.

The co-op not only serves as a social outlet but also provides direct assistance for various life tasks, enhancing the well-being of its members. Many participants have reported improvements in their mental health, citing the peace of mind that comes from knowing they have a reliable support network.
