Grayslake Middle School celebrates $6,500 fundraiser and sportsmanship award

The Grayslake Community Consolidated School District 46 Board of Education meeting on April 9th, 2025, opened with a heartfelt celebration of community service and student achievements at Grayslake Middle School (GMS). The board recognized Ms. Corey for her decade of dedication, which has significantly contributed to the school’s fundraising efforts, including raising over $6,500 during a recent event. This initiative also saw 14 hair donations and 18 blood donations, showcasing the school’s commitment to supporting both local and national causes.

In addition to the financial contributions, GMS has donated more than $160,000 to the St. Baldrick's Foundation over the past ten years, emphasizing the importance of community engagement among students. The event not only raised funds but also fostered a spirit of service, encouraging students to understand the impact of their actions on those in need.

The meeting also highlighted Abby Mack, who emerged as the largest fundraiser for the St. Baldrick event, raising over $950. Ms. Tanger was acknowledged for her efforts in promoting participation and sportsmanship in after-school activities, leading to GMS receiving the 2025 IESA Division Sportsmanship Award. This recognition will be celebrated at the IESA Celebration of Excellence Banquet on April 29 in Bloomington, where a banner will be displayed at the school.

The presentation concluded with gratitude towards the board members and the broader D46 learning community for their support, reinforcing the collaborative spirit that makes GMS a vibrant educational environment. The board expressed appreciation for the inspiring stories shared, highlighting the positive impact of student initiatives on the community. As GMS continues to engage in meaningful projects, the school looks forward to updating the board on future endeavors that further enhance community involvement and student development.
