Austin secures $1.5M grant for Walter Elong Metropolitan Park upgrades

A significant milestone for Austin's parks was celebrated at the City Council meeting on April 10, 2025, as officials announced the acceptance of a $1.5 million grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. This funding will support critical infrastructure upgrades at Walter Elong Metropolitan Park, marking a vital investment in the community.

The grant, which required a matching contribution from the city, will enhance safety and accessibility within the park. Improvements include safer roads, defined parking, ADA-compliant access, and the restoration of restroom utilities.
