The Huntington Township Planning Commission meeting on December 23, 2024, highlighted significant developments regarding land use and property management in the area. A key discussion centered around the cleanup and future plans for a property owned by LQ Corporation, represented by Glenn Loboff. The site, currently described as an eyesore, is set for a major cleanup to remove debris and improve its appearance. Loboff emphasized the urgency of this cleanup, stating, "The site's a mess... it doesn't represent what we want it to represent."
The commission also discussed the long-term vision for the property, which includes plans for office space and additional warehouse structures over the next decade. Loboff indicated that the company aims to consolidate its operations, moving various business units to this location. He noted, "Our intent is to try and make the building functional for what's there for the time being," while also addressing the need for a functioning septic system, which is currently under review.
In a separate discussion, Brian Kunkle presented his interest in purchasing an old schoolhouse property on Mud Run Road. Kunkle is looking to build a new home on the site but raised concerns about the future of the schoolhouse, which lacks modern amenities and is not officially designated as a historic landmark. The commission clarified that without such designation, Kunkle has the option to demolish the schoolhouse if he chooses. Kunkle expressed his uncertainty, stating, "I really don't want the schoolhouse, but I don't know if I’m forced to keep it."
The meeting underscored the township's ongoing efforts to manage land development effectively while addressing community concerns about property aesthetics and historical preservation. As these projects progress, the Planning Commission will continue to monitor developments closely, ensuring that the community's interests are upheld.
