April is officially Arts Month in Dearborn, and the city is buzzing with creative energy. Celebrating over a decade of artistic appreciation, the Dearborn City Council highlighted a series of exciting events designed to engage the community and showcase local talent.

The spotlight is on the Dearborn Public Schools All Schools Art Show, currently on display at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. This exhibition features remarkable artwork from students ranging from kindergarten to high school, with a special focus on senior artists selected by their teachers.

This Saturday, residents can attend the free Arty Party at Art Space, where families can enjoy live art demonstrations, participate in hands-on activities, and listen to music. The event runs from 1 PM to 5 PM, promising a fun-filled day for all ages.

Additionally, the Dearborn Symphony will perform on Friday night at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center, offering a chance to experience the city’s award-winning musical talent, though tickets will be required for this event.

A significant moment will occur on April 24, when the gallery at the Henry Ford Centennial Library will be renamed in honor of Emma Jean Woodyard, the executive director of the Dearborn Community Fund. Woodyard has been a pivotal figure in promoting the arts in Dearborn, and this dedication recognizes her lifelong commitment to uplifting artists and fostering community engagement through art.

The month will culminate with the Mayor's Arts Awards on April 28, where outstanding artists, organizations, and instructors will be honored for their contributions to the local arts scene.

For aspiring young artists, the Pockets of Perception student design team is seeking applicants for an apprenticeship program. High school students entering the 11th grade can apply by April 11 to work alongside professional artists on permanent installations throughout Dearborn.
