Athens Services introduces blue recycling containers to Montebello households

The Montebello City Council meeting on April 9, 2025, featured a significant presentation by Vicky Martinez Muela, Vice President of Government Affairs for Athens Services, regarding the upcoming rollout of blue recycling containers to local households. This initiative aims to enhance the city's recycling efforts and ensure compliance with state mandates on waste management.

Martinez Muela emphasized the importance of community participation in recycling, highlighting that each household will receive a 96-gallon blue recycling container delivered between April 14 and April 25. Residents will be informed through a letter that includes a recycling guide and answers to frequently asked questions, ensuring they are well-prepared for the new system.

Starting April 28, residents are encouraged to place their blue containers curbside on their regular trash collection days. The new system will streamline waste sorting, with trash going into black containers, recyclables into blue containers, and organic waste into green containers. Martinez Muela provided clear guidelines on what materials belong in each container, aiming to reduce contamination and improve recycling rates.

This initiative not only supports environmental sustainability but also fosters community engagement in responsible waste management practices.
