Norwood High School honors Julia Pierra and Timothy Guarren with academic excellence awards

The Norwood School Committee meeting on April 10, 2025, highlighted significant achievements among local students and provided updates on ongoing projects within the district.

The meeting began with the presentation of two prestigious awards to outstanding students. Julia Perera received the New England School Development Council award for her academic growth and leadership. Recognized for her exceptional character and commitment to community service, Julia founded the Women Empowerment Youth Organization and is involved in various initiatives, including a community greenhouse project aimed at supporting local food pantries.

Timothy Guarren was honored with the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence. He was praised for his academic achievements, ranking second in his class and participating in numerous extracurricular activities, including earning the Eagle Scout rank. His dedication to service and leadership was highlighted by his school counselor, who described him as a role model within the community.

Following the student recognitions, John Longley provided an overview of the successful winter sports season. He announced several individual and team awards, including multiple Tri Valley League honors for basketball, gymnastics, and swimming. Notably, the boys' basketball, girls' basketball, and boys' ice hockey teams each won their respective league championships.
