Hastings declares April 18 Arbor Day with tree planting at Lake Isabelle Park

The Hastings City Council convened on April 7, 2025, to address several key agenda items, beginning with a roll call to confirm the presence of council members. All members were present, establishing a quorum for the meeting.

One of the primary discussions centered around a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day. Council member Pemble introduced the proclamation, highlighting that the city of Hastings will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, April 18. This event has been a tradition since 1997, during which the city has planted trees in various parks and public spaces, as identified by the city forester.

The proclamation emphasized the importance of Arbor Day in promoting tree planting and fostering civic pride among Hastings residents. This year’s celebration will take place at Lake Isabelle Park from 1 PM to 2 PM, where 12 to 13 trees will be planted, mulched, and watered. The event is partially sponsored by Dakota Electric Association and Hoffman and McNamara, with the city expressing gratitude for their support.

Additionally, the city of Hastings has been recognized as a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation since 1997, marking 28 years of commitment to urban forestry.

The meeting concluded with an invitation from the mayor for community members to participate in the tree planting event, reinforcing the city’s dedication to environmental stewardship and community engagement.
