Mayor Melnick declares April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Big Bear Lake

In a significant move to raise awareness about child welfare, the City of Big Bear Lake has officially proclaimed April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month. During the recent city council meeting, Mayor Perry Melnick presented the proclamation to Hillary Steenson Ray, the associate network officer for the San Bernardino County Children's Network.

This declaration aligns with national efforts to highlight the importance of community collaboration in preventing child abuse and neglect. In 2023, over 31,000 children in San Bernardino County were referred to Children Family Services due to suspected abuse, underscoring the urgent need for preventive measures.

The Children's Network has organized a series of initiatives for April, including a blue ribbon media campaign, distribution of educational materials, and the 25th annual "Shine a Light on Child Abuse Prevention" award ceremony. These efforts aim to engage the community and promote protective measures for children and families.
