Chelsea School Committee reviews security measures and mental health initiatives for students

Chelsea City School Committee members are taking significant steps to enhance student safety and mental health support in local schools. During the meeting on April 9, 2025, committee members discussed the importance of streamlining security processes and improving communication with families regarding school safety measures.

A key focus was on the role of School Resource Officers (SROs) in schools. Officer Garrison Daniels, stationed at Chelsea High School, is actively involved in outreach and emergency response, ensuring a strong connection between the school and the Chelsea Police Department. The committee announced that Officer Daniels will soon have a dedicated office within the school, allowing him to perform his duties more efficiently.

In addition to security measures, the committee emphasized the need for increased funding for mental health resources and school counselors. Members highlighted the importance of social-emotional learning initiatives, aiming to create a safe and supportive environment for all students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.
