Hagerstown Council supports bid for 2027 USA softball tournament

The City of Hagerstown is gearing up to host the 2027 USA Softball Eastern National Girls Fast Pitch Tournament, with the Mayor seeking council approval for a letter of support to bolster the city's bid. This initiative aims to bring significant sporting events to Hagerstown, enhancing community engagement and local tourism.

During the recent council work session, City Administrator provided updates on various local initiatives, including a successful $250,000 allocation for the Public Safety Center from the state budget. However, not all legislative efforts were fruitful; a proposed body camera bill did not pass this session, prompting discussions on strategies for future advocacy.

The meeting also highlighted upcoming community events, such as a community yard sale, a downtown scavenger hunt, and the return of the City Farmers Market, all scheduled for the weekend of April 12-13. These events are expected to draw significant participation and foster community spirit.

Council members expressed their appreciation for ongoing community cleanup efforts and the importance of public engagement in local development projects. Councilwoman Nattel emphasized the need for thorough discussions regarding large housing developments, while Councilwoman Bell praised the positive impact of recent protests and community activities.

As April is recognized for various health awareness initiatives, including National Public Health Week and National Autism Awareness Week, council members encouraged residents to get involved and educate themselves on these important issues.
