Mayor Orcutt authorizes trade of unclaimed firearms by Brook Park Police Department

Brook Park's City Council has taken a significant step towards improving the efficiency of its police department by approving an ordinance that allows the trade-in of unclaimed or forfeited weapons. Introduced by Mayor Orcutt during the caucus meeting on April 9, 2025, this decision aims to streamline inventory management at the Brook Park Police Department.

Mayor Orcutt highlighted the diligent efforts of Police Chief Ed Powers in organizing the police station and managing its inventory. The ordinance will enable the department to trade approximately 50 firearms that are no longer needed, providing an opportunity to receive credit with Vance Outdoors. During the meeting, Chief Powers explained that many of the weapons have been held as evidence over the years and have not been utilized for training or other purposes.
