Iverton School Board plans fifth grade trip to Outdoor Classroom this October

The Mendon-Upton Regional School District held a School Committee meeting on April 7, 2025, where several key topics were discussed, highlighting the district's commitment to student engagement and educational experiences.

One of the most notable discussions centered around a recent Spanish exchange trip, where 14 students traveled to Lyon, Spain. This two-week trip aims to immerse students in Spanish culture and language, providing them with opportunities to interact with local students and visit various cultural sites. Feedback from previous participants indicates that the experience has been enriching and enjoyable.

The meeting also featured updates on the Best Buddies program, which recently hosted its annual bowling event and an inclusion lunch in collaboration with peer leadership. These activities are designed to foster social connections among students, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and community building within the school environment.

Prom preparations were another highlight, with the event scheduled for May 9 at The Avenue in Walpole. Excitement is building among students, particularly following the announcement of the promposal contest winners, who showcased their creativity in a fun and engaging manner.

Additionally, the English Language Arts Night, held on April 2, was discussed. This event focused on student learning through various sessions, including slam poetry and book analysis. One session specifically addressed the themes present in children's literature, illustrating how these narratives contribute to the development of students' perspectives and beliefs.

In terms of future activities, the committee reviewed plans for the fifth-grade trip to the newly renamed Outdoor Classroom, formerly known as Nature's Classroom. Scheduled for October 29 to 31, this trip aims to provide students with hands-on learning experiences in nature. The committee emphasized the importance of ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent any student from participating, highlighting the support from the PTO and scholarships available for families in need.
