Midland City Council approves alcohol sales at Rudy's Barbecue off Loop 250

In the heart of Midland, excitement buzzed through the air as city officials gathered to discuss a new development that promises to bring a taste of Texas to the community. At the recent council meeting, Elizabeth Triggs, the planning and development officer, presented a proposal for a Rudy's Barbecue restaurant, which is currently under construction near Loop 250, close to popular retail spots like Home Depot and Target.

The proposal includes a specific use designation request to allow for alcohol sales and on-site consumption at the restaurant. Triggs detailed the operational hours, which are set for Monday through Saturday from 7 AM to 10 PM, and Sundays from 10 AM to 10 PM. The planning and zoning commission had already recommended approval, and city staff echoed this support, noting that no objections had been received from the public.

As Triggs showcased the site plans, she emphasized that the restaurant's location complies with state law, as there are no schools or similar establishments within 300 feet of the proposed site. The council members expressed their enthusiasm, with one member reminiscing about family outings to Rudy's in El Paso, highlighting the restaurant's potential to become a local favorite.

After a brief public hearing, where no comments were made, the council swiftly moved to vote on the proposal. The motion passed unanimously, marking a significant step forward for the new establishment.
