Hubbardston launches new infrastructure app for resident reporting and requests

During the recent Select Board meeting in Hubbardston, Massachusetts, key discussions centered around infrastructure improvements, grant applications, and upcoming town initiatives, reflecting the community's ongoing efforts to enhance local services and facilities.

One of the most notable topics was the introduction of a new platform designed to streamline communication between residents and town officials regarding infrastructure concerns. This initiative, described as a "see click fix" system, will allow residents to report issues such as potholes directly to officials, complete with a tracking feature similar to a pizza delivery tracker. This innovation aims to improve responsiveness and transparency in addressing community needs.

The board also discussed the HUB Connect project, for which a $100,000 grant application was submitted to retrofit existing retail space into a conference room. Although the application was not successful, officials expressed optimism about reapplying in the future, highlighting the competitive nature of grant funding where many communities are vying for limited resources.

In addition, the board approved a contract with Niche Engineering for a sandpit feasibility study, funded by a $50,000 grant. This project is expected to enhance public engagement and transparency, as the study will be conducted with significant community involvement.

Another critical agenda item was the approval of a contract with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) to prioritize local transportation routes. This agreement will enable Hubbardston to submit its priority roads for potential funding, streamlining the process for necessary repairs and improvements.

The meeting also addressed personnel changes, including the resignation of the town accountant and a member of the economic development committee, both of whom were acknowledged for their contributions to the community.

As the board moved forward, they closed the annual town meeting warrant, setting the stage for future discussions and decisions that will shape Hubbardston's development.
