Historic Commission approves design changes for 2835 Tanner Street project

A significant step forward for neighborhood development was taken at the recent Dallas Landmark Commission meeting, where plans for a new single-family home at 2835 Tanner Street received approval. The project, which has been in the works for over a decade, aims to blend seamlessly into the historical fabric of the area.

Jessica Garrett, the project representative, highlighted the design's commitment to maintaining the neighborhood's character, incorporating features like exposed rafter tails and two-part columns. The design underwent several revisions based on feedback from the Landmark Commission and neighborhood task force, ensuring it aligns with historical aesthetics.

Key recommendations from the commission included applying wood trim to the exterior siding, widening the front porch by at least one foot, and recentering the front door and paired windows. Additionally, the windows will feature aluminum frames with a simple 1-over-1 configuration, and driveways and walkways will be finished with brushed concrete.

Commissioners engaged in a detailed discussion, suggesting minor adjustments to enhance the design further, such as moving the left pair of windows for better symmetry and adding a gable vent to break up the siding visually. The motion to approve the project, with these conditions, was passed unanimously, marking a positive outcome for the community's development efforts.
