A new initiative aimed at improving access to essential services in Kandiyohi County is gaining momentum, as county leaders discuss the potential for a Family Resource Center (FRC). This center would serve as a low-barrier entry point for residents seeking assistance, addressing the common misconception that such services are only for certain individuals.

During the Kandiyohi County Board meeting on April 1, 2025, officials highlighted the importance of creating a welcoming environment for constituents. Many residents hesitate to approach Health and Human Services, fearing they may not qualify for help. The proposed FRC would connect individuals to various resources, including housing and heating assistance through the United Community Action Partnership (UCAP).

Commissioner Dale Anderson praised the proactive approach of researching community needs before launching the project. He emphasized the significance of understanding what residents truly require, rather than implementing programs without proper insight.
