Carrollton hosts semifinals as local teams excel in athletics

Excitement is in the air as Appling County's 10-year-old football team gears up for the semifinals in Carrollton this Saturday, marking a significant achievement for the district. The team's impressive performance has captured the community's attention, while the 12U team finished a commendable second in their district, and the 8U team secured third place, showcasing the strength of local youth sports.

In addition to football, basketball registration is closing this week, with practices set to kick off on Monday. This transition into basketball season follows a successful state athletic meeting in Griffin, where Appling County was awarded the 12U baseball state title and recognized for its swimming program for the third consecutive year.

The Aquatic Center is currently undergoing repairs, with new fans being installed and expected to be completed by the weekend. A middle school swim meet is scheduled for Tuesday, and later in January, the high school region swim meet will take place at the facility, attracting teams from some of Georgia's largest schools, including Waynes County and Valdosta.
