Pacific Grove High School celebrates student achievements in music and culinary arts

Students from Pacific Grove Unified School District showcased their musical and culinary talents at the April 4, 2025, Board Meeting, highlighting the district's commitment to arts education.

Fourth grader Amas Cohen and fifth grader Regina Zavada passionately spoke about their experiences in the music program, led by their teacher, Mr. Cohen. Amas shared his excitement about playing the French horn and drums, while Regina emphasized the joy of learning new instruments and performing in front of an audience. "Learning an instrument is fun," she stated, reflecting the enthusiasm shared by her peers. The board recognized the dedication of nearly 120 students in the music program, presenting certificates to the six student representatives who attended the meeting.

Following the music presentation, Chef Imogen Erickson and her culinary arts students took the stage to discuss their recent achievements in the ProStart competition. The students, including team captains Destiny Craft and Zach Fernandez, detailed their experiences preparing for the rigorous culinary challenge, which involved creating a three-course meal under time constraints. Destiny noted the importance of teamwork and time management, while Zach highlighted the educational value of the competition, stating, "ProStart is about the experience and education you receive."

The board expressed pride in the students' accomplishments, emphasizing the skills they are developing that will serve them well beyond high school. Certificates were awarded to the culinary team, recognizing their hard work and dedication. The meeting underscored the district's core values of belonging, safety, and prosperity, with music and culinary arts serving as vital components of student development and community engagement.
