Arlington ISD honors students and community partners at recent school board meeting

The Arlington Independent School District (AISD) Board of Trustees meeting on April 3, 2025, showcased a series of significant updates and recognitions as the school year approaches its conclusion. The meeting began with fifth grader Sophia Doron from Corey Academy of Fine Arts leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a performance from the Seguin High School percussion ensemble, directed by Nathan Boyer.

The board honored senior Contreras Green as the April Student of the Month. Green, noted for his academic drive and involvement in various clubs and sports, serves as vice president of Seguin's National Honor Society.

In recognition of community support, the Arlington Athletic Hall of Honor Foundation received the Community Partner Award for its commitment to providing scholarships and opportunities for student-athletes.

The board also received updates on the 2019 bond program, a $966 million initiative focused on new construction, renovations, and technology improvements across the district. Assistant Superintendent Kelly Horn reported on ongoing construction, including the upcoming opening of Joey Rodriguez Junior High School in less than five months. The board approved several purchases for the new school, including classroom and cafeteria furniture.

Additionally, Dr. Natalie Lopez, AISD Assistant Superintendent of Research and Accountability, presented on student outcomes from the second curriculum assessment of the year, emphasizing the district's commitment to improving literacy and math proficiency as mandated by House Bill 3.
