Ballston Spa honors teacher Lance Ham and Odyssey of the Mind teams

The Ballston Spa School District celebrated outstanding achievements during its Board of Education meeting on April 2, 2025, highlighting the dedication of educators and students alike.

Principal Robinson opened the recognition segment by honoring Lance Ham, a beloved English teacher at Ballston Spa High School. Ham, who has been teaching for 20 years, was awarded the TCT Bridal Union Teacher of the Week in February. His commitment to student success and well-being was emphasized by a student who shared how Ham provided crucial support during challenging times. This recognition underscores the vital role teachers play in shaping the lives of their students.

The meeting also showcased the impressive accomplishments of the Odyssey of the Mind teams from Malta Avenue and Wood Road. Malta Avenue had two teams qualify for the state competition after excelling at the regional tournament. The students, along with their coaches, received applause for their hard work and creativity. Principal Hetaldo expressed pride in their achievements, emphasizing the importance of fostering such talents in the community.

Wood Road also made strides with three teams participating this year, marking a significant milestone. One of their teams qualified for the state competition, and the coaches and students were recognized for their efforts. The enthusiasm surrounding these teams reflects the district's commitment to encouraging innovative thinking and teamwork among students.

Additionally, the middle school teams were acknowledged, with one team preparing for the World competition. The recognition of these students highlights the district's focus on promoting academic excellence and extracurricular engagement.
