Coral Springs proclaims April as Autism Awareness Month with community events and support

Coral Springs is taking significant steps to promote autism awareness and improve community support for individuals with autism. During the recent commission meeting on April 2, 2025, the city proclaimed April as Autism Awareness Month, highlighting its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment.

The proclamation emphasized the importance of educating the public about autism, a lifelong neurological condition that affects communication and social interactions. The city plans to host a series of events throughout April, including Boogie Dance Day, Touch a Truck, and a sensory walk, aimed at engaging the community and promoting understanding of autism. Additionally, free sensory bags will be distributed by the parks and recreation department to support individuals with sensory needs.

City officials, including the mayor and vice mayor, participated in an Atlantic Tech field trip, showcasing positive interactions between first responders and individuals with autism. The meeting also honored local organizations, such as Atlantis Academy and the Phi Xi Zeta sorority, for their efforts in raising awareness and supporting individuals with autism.

In another key discussion, Mark Ritter from the Coral Springs Improvement District presented a proposal for a new telecommunications tower to enhance mobile service reliability in the area. The tower, supported by T-Mobile, aims to address performance issues and improve communication infrastructure for residents and businesses.
