Crews advance Columbus Avenue renovation with concrete work and infrastructure installation

The Bayfront Corridor project in Sandusky is making significant strides as construction crews continue to enhance the area. During the recent committee meeting on March 27, 2025, updates revealed that the pouring of concrete for the intersection table at West Water Street and Columbus Avenue has been completed, marking a key milestone in the ongoing development.

Crews have successfully removed the old roadway on the east side of Columbus Avenue and are preparing the base for asphalt, which is expected to be laid once weather conditions permit. The project team is currently awaiting updates from asphalt plants regarding their opening days, as temperatures must reach specific thresholds for the material to cure properly.

In addition to roadway work, crews are actively installing underground conduits, brick pavers, and light pole foundations. Temporary parking restrictions were implemented on April 3 to facilitate the removal of street lighting along the east side of Columbus Avenue, with plans to restore parking once the work is completed.

Looking ahead, the week of April 7 will see a reset of detour routes as the West Water Street intersection is set to open, providing access to Columbus Avenue. Work will also commence on the East Water Street intersection, alongside concrete restoration efforts along Dailies. The installation of light pole and traffic signal bases near Washington Park is ongoing, with multiple crews working simultaneously to expedite progress.

Concrete placement in the 100 block is anticipated to occur in late April, with continuous communication being maintained with local business owners to keep them informed of developments.
