YMCA leaders report growth and community impact during annual presentation in Marion

The Marion City Council meeting on April 2, 2025, spotlighted the impressive growth and community impact of the Marion YMCA during its annual presentation. Bob Carlson, president and CEO of the YMCA, highlighted the facility's status as one of the fastest-growing YMCAs in Iowa, boasting a sprawling 75,000 square feet of amenities designed to serve the community.

Dale Emerson, the branch executive director, shared compelling statistics, revealing that the Marion YMCA currently has over 9,400 members, a significant increase since relocating from its previous site. The facility has tripled its membership, reflecting its vital role in the community. Emerson noted that the YMCA has hosted over 33,000 group fitness attendees and serves more than 4,000 youth sports participants, including a robust youth basketball program with 66 teams this past winter.

The YMCA's collaboration with the city of Marion was also emphasized, particularly in youth sports, where they jointly run programs like basketball and flag football. This partnership has facilitated access to practice spaces and game hosting, further enriching the community's recreational offerings.
