Oklahoma Senate honors Magnus Miller for lifesaving actions during basketball tournament emergency

A remarkable act of heroism took center stage during the Oklahoma Senate meeting on April 1, 2025, as members honored Magnus Miller, a senior at Life Christian Academy in Choctaw, for his life-saving actions during a high school basketball tournament. On January 9, 2025, Magnus displayed extraordinary bravery when an opposing player, Randy Vitalis from Dover High School, collapsed on the court due to cardiac arrest.

While others were paralyzed by shock, Magnus sprang into action, utilizing his lifeguard training to assess the situation. He opened Randy's airway, checked for a pulse, and began administering CPR. His quick response, combined with the use of an automatic external defibrillator (AED), which had been made available in schools thanks to recent legislative efforts, played a crucial role in saving Randy's life.

The Senate recognized Magnus not only for his courage but also for highlighting the critical importance of CPR training and emergency preparedness in schools and public spaces. Senator Brenda Stanley motioned for a formal citation to commend Magnus for his selflessness and commitment to the well-being of others, reinforcing the need for policies that support heart health and emergency response.
