Hamilton City schools host Grand Event for families and students at Brookwood Elementary

Community engagement and educational initiatives took center stage at the Hamilton City Board of Education meeting on March 27, 2025, highlighting the district's commitment to fostering local pride and student involvement.

One of the most impactful discussions revolved around a new history elective aimed at freshmen, designed to connect students with their community's past and present. A community member emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives in the program, stating, "We'd love to see this program expand... because you are somebody who makes Hamilton a better place." This initiative not only aims to educate students about Hamilton's history but also to instill a sense of pride and citizenship among them.

The meeting also featured the much-anticipated "Grand Event" at Brookwood Elementary, where family members were invited to participate in activities with students. This event aims to bridge the gap between home and school, allowing families to experience their children's educational environment firsthand. The excitement was palpable, with one educator noting, "The kids are so excited... our guests who are coming in always pair up with all of the students, so everyone gets to enjoy the activity together."

In addition to these community-focused initiatives, the board approved several personnel changes, including the appointment of Rebecca Ware as the new assistant principal at Highland Elementary. Ware, a long-time member of the Hamilton educational community, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating, "I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve... I look forward to contributing to the ongoing success of our district and most importantly our students."

As the meeting concluded, Superintendent Blevins reminded families about the upcoming state testing for students in grades 3 through 8, emphasizing the importance of preparation and support from home. With a busy hiring season ahead, she encouraged community members to consider joining the Hamilton City Schools staff, highlighting the variety of roles available beyond traditional teaching positions.
