Ossining High School is set to celebrate a month filled with achievements and community engagement, as highlighted in the recent Board of Education meeting held on March 26, 2025. The meeting featured a comprehensive report from student representative Aliyah, who detailed numerous events and accomplishments that took place throughout March.
Among the notable highlights, the school will host its annual Women's History Month celebration on March 27, featuring keynote speaker Miss Jimenez, a school social worker. This event, organized by the Human Rights Club, aims to honor women's contributions and will coincide with the beginning of Ramadan, a significant time for many students.
The month also saw the recognition of school social workers during Social Work Week, alongside various initiatives promoting inclusivity and awareness, such as "Rock Your Socks Day" for World Down Syndrome Day. Additionally, the school is gearing up for an incoming grade 9 parent night, fostering connections between new families and the school community.
In a significant achievement, Ossining's robotics team has qualified for the FIRST Robotics World Championship in Houston, Texas, showcasing the school's commitment to STEM education. The meeting also celebrated the success of students in various competitions, including the New York DECA State Career Conference and the New York State Science and Engineering Fair, where several students earned top honors.
Superintendent Miss Fox Alter emphasized the importance of community involvement, noting the collaborative efforts of students and staff in building planters for a new outdoor garden center. She also highlighted the district's participation in the New York State Uplifting All Students conference, which focused on fostering equity and inclusivity in education.
Looking ahead, the district will observe Eid on March 31, and families are encouraged to donate gently used prom attire for the upcoming prom pop-up shop, which proved successful last year. Pre-K registration is also underway, ensuring that families are prepared for the upcoming school year.
The meeting underscored the vibrant and engaged community at Ossining High School, with a clear focus on celebrating diversity, promoting student achievements, and fostering a supportive environment for all.
