Northampton's Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School is making significant strides in its construction project, as reported during the SVAHS Board of Trustees meeting on March 25, 2025. The agricultural building is now 46% complete, with all framing, roofing, and windows installed, marking a crucial milestone as the structure is now weather-tight. This development allows for the commencement of interior work, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations.
Craig Wilbur from Schoolhouse Construction highlighted the successful pouring of concrete, which had previously been a concern due to weather conditions. Thanks to favorable weather and diligent efforts from the construction team, the project is on track for completion in June, albeit slightly later than initially planned. However, there is potential for an earlier move-in date, possibly before July, depending on coordination with the building department.
The project also boasts a contingency balance of approximately $118,000, a significant improvement from earlier projections. This surplus may be allocated for additional needs within the project, showcasing effective financial management amidst construction challenges.
As the project progresses, upcoming tasks include final site work and the installation of a generator, with exterior siding expected to begin in the next three weeks. The community can look forward to continued updates as the school prepares to enhance its facilities for students and staff.
