During the recent Dickson County Board of Education meeting, President Carrie Joyce highlighted several key initiatives and events that underscore the district's commitment to enriching student experiences through literacy, drama, and music.

March is recognized as Read Across America Month, a national initiative aimed at promoting literacy, which coincides with the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss. Joyce expressed gratitude to educators and community members for their involvement in reading activities across elementary schools, emphasizing the importance of fostering a love for reading among students.

In addition to literacy, Joyce announced that March also celebrates Drama in Our Schools Month. She encouraged attendance at upcoming school productions, including "Mamma Mia" at Dickson County High School and "Aladdin" at Burns Middle School. Notably, the district has only two dedicated drama teachers, yet many educators contribute to after-school theater programs, showcasing the community's dedication to the arts.

Furthermore, March is Music in Our Schools Month, and Joyce recognized the district's 22 music teachers, who provide vital music education in every school. She thanked the board for their long-standing support of music programs, including the district-wide honors band and choir, which allow talented young musicians to collaborate and perform.

Joyce also shared exciting news about the Dickson County band, which recently returned from a trip to Disney World, where they participated in a recording session for the soundtrack of the movie "Frozen."
