David Wyatt highlights $2M rental assistance program at Anoka County meeting

Anoka County's Housing and Redevelopment Authority Board made significant strides in addressing housing needs during their meeting on March 25, 2025. A key highlight was the acknowledgment of the impact of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding on local housing assistance programs.

David Wyatt, the housing program manager at Mediation Restorative Services, presented compelling data on the effectiveness of CDBG funding. He noted that the addition of a housing resource navigator, funded through CDBG, enabled the organization to generate over $800,000 in rental assistance for Anoka County residents. This contribution was part of a larger effort that resulted in more than $2 million in direct payments to landlords through the Rent Help MN program. Wyatt emphasized that without this additional support, such achievements would not have been possible.

The board also discussed a request from the city of Blaine to expand the definition of a home to include mobile and manufactured homes. This request indicates a growing recognition of the diverse housing needs within the community and the importance of inclusive policies that address various living situations.
