Scottsdale finalizes construction timelines for parks and senior centers expansion projects

The Scottsdale Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee met on March 25, 2025, to discuss several community-focused projects aimed at enhancing local facilities and services. Among the key topics was the ongoing construction of a splash pad and improved walkways at McCormick Stillman Railroad Park, which is expected to be completed this summer. This project is part of a broader effort to enhance recreational spaces in the city.

Another significant discussion centered on the expansion of the Granite Reef Senior Center to meet the growing demand for adult day care services. However, funding for this project has been postponed to fiscal year 2026-2027. Similarly, plans to expand the Via Linda Senior Center are underway, with the design contract currently being initiated.

The committee also highlighted the addition of a dog park at Thompson Peak Park, with construction slated to begin later this year. Additionally, the construction of multi-use fields at Bell Road is progressing, with minor work remaining on the Reatta Wash sports complex, which is already in use.

A new 17-acre park at Asher Hills Drive recently opened, featuring playgrounds, walking trails, and sports courts, marking a significant addition to the community's recreational offerings. The committee shared photos of the park, emphasizing its role as the northernmost neighborhood park in Scottsdale.

Other projects discussed included the expansion of parking facilities at Pinnacle Peak Park and the construction of a new parking lot to serve the city court and Scottsdale Stadium, which has faced delays due to additional funding requirements for the stadium project.

The meeting also addressed various IT-related projects aimed at modernizing city infrastructure, including updates to emergency response systems and the installation of fiber optic infrastructure to reduce operating costs. The construction of a new fire station near Hayden and Loop 101 is on track for completion this summer, further enhancing public safety services in the area.

As the committee prepares for its next meeting in May, it will consider potential scope changes for several projects due to limited funding. The discussions from this meeting reflect Scottsdale's commitment to improving community facilities and services, ensuring that the needs of residents are met as the city continues to grow.
