Commissioners approve $800K perimeter fencing project for Bell County Jail using ARPA funds

The Bell County Commissioner’s Court convened on December 16, 2024, to discuss several key items, including the approval of perimeter fencing for the county jail and amendments to a tax increment finance agreement with the City of Temple.

The meeting began with a proposal to approve the purchase of perimeter fencing for the jail, funded by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Following this, the court considered a third amendment to the 2012 agreement with the City of Temple regarding the extension of the tax increment finance reinvestment zone. This amendment aims to extend the performance deadline for both parties to December 31 of the following year, allowing more time for the construction of a new annex. The motion to approve this amendment was also passed unanimously.

The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss ongoing negotiations related to healthcare contracts. After the closed session, the court moved on to consider the award of a request for proposals for inmate and juvenile medical services, indicating ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare provisions within the county's correctional facilities.
