A significant infrastructure project is set to transform a crucial roadway in the Ellendale area, with Applied Digital Corporation pledging $3 million towards improvements. The project, which involves upgrading a mile and a half of road to enhance connectivity between Highway 11 and Highway 281, is estimated to cost around $6 million in total.
During a recent House Appropriations meeting, discussions highlighted the complexities of ownership and funding for the road, which is classified as a township road, city street, and county road. Representative Brandenburg emphasized the importance of collaboration among local entities to facilitate the project, which aims to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety for local residents and truck drivers.
The improvements will include the construction of turn lanes and an acceleration lane, with engineering work already underway by KLJ. Nick Phillips, EVP of External Affairs for Applied Digital Corporation, indicated that the goal is to complete the paving and turn lane construction by this summer, pending necessary approvals from local authorities.
The project has garnered support from local officials, who recognize the benefits of reducing traffic in town and enhancing access to the new facility. The county has been cooperative in discussions, with plans for the road to eventually become part of the county road system, ensuring ongoing maintenance and support.
As the project moves forward, it represents a significant investment in local infrastructure, driven by public-private partnerships aimed at fostering economic growth and improving community safety.
