The City Council of Indianapolis held a meeting on March 25, 2025, where key updates regarding the library foundation and its recent activities were discussed. The meeting highlighted the success of the recent McFadden Lecture, which was well-attended and praised for its engaging presentation. Attendees were encouraged to watch the lecture video available on the library's YouTube channel until the end of the week.
Looking ahead, the next significant event, "Circulate," is scheduled for May 9 at the Central Library. Ticket prices will increase starting April 1, prompting officials to recommend early purchases.
The library foundation reported a strong month, with 242 donors contributing, including notable corporate sponsors such as Allen Whitehall and Lilly Endowment. The foundation allocated over $100,000 to support various library programs, including the World Language Book Club and the Summer Reading Program.
In addition to the foundation updates, CEO Greg provided a report on library operations, noting an increase in physical circulation. In February, the library circulated an average of 13,360 items daily, up from 12,341 in January. The Glendale branch led in circulation, followed by Michigan Road and Franklin Road branches.
The meeting concluded with a call for approval of a confirmatory resolution related to financial matters, which was unanimously approved by the board members present. Overall, the meeting underscored the library's ongoing commitment to community engagement and program development.
