The Dallas Quality of Life, Arts and Culture Committee convened on March 25, 2025, to discuss significant developments regarding the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Master Plan, specifically focusing on the temporary relocation of T Ball to the Women's Museum at Fair Park. The meeting featured key presentations from Reginald Williams, assistant director for Convention and Event Services, and representatives from Dakeda Enterprises, including CEO Eve Williams and COO Dave Zobrist.
Williams opened the meeting by outlining the collaborative effort involving Convention and Event Services, Dallas Parks and Recreation, the Office of Arts and Culture, and Dakeda Enterprises. This partnership aims to facilitate T Ball's relocation while the convention center undergoes renovations. The decision to move T Ball to the Women's Museum was reached after evaluating several potential sites, with the museum being chosen for its centralized access to public transportation, ample parking, and potential for increased park activity.
The committee was informed that the Women's Museum has been largely unused since 2010 and will require repairs to accommodate T Ball's operations. A phased approach to renovations was proposed, which includes the abatement and demolition of nonhistoric partitions, as well as necessary upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, alongside ADA compliance improvements.
Zobrist was invited to provide further details on the renovation plans, emphasizing the importance of transforming the museum's vast open spaces into multipurpose and performance areas suitable for T Ball's needs.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue collaboration among the involved departments and stakeholders to ensure a successful transition for T Ball to its temporary home at the Women's Museum. The committee's discussions highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance Dallas's cultural landscape while addressing the needs of its arts community.
