The East Multnomah Outreach Prevention Intervention Program (IMOBI) is making significant strides in reducing youth violence and fostering community safety. During a recent government meeting, representatives highlighted the program's comprehensive approach, which includes prevention, intervention, and engaging activities designed to empower at-risk youth and their families.
IMOBI collaborates with various partners, including school behavioral health professionals, law enforcement, and community leaders, to implement innovative and evidence-based solutions. The program offers intensive case management, mentorship, and wraparound services, ensuring that the holistic needs of young individuals are met. This includes after-school activities such as rock climbing, computer programming, dance, and sports, often provided by culturally specific organizations that cater to the diverse needs of the youth.
Currently, IMOBI serves 40 of the highest-risk youth in the region, many of whom are young adults involved with the justice system. Through partnerships with two organizations, the program provides one-on-one guidance to help these individuals navigate challenges and build resilience. The case managers utilize evidence-based strategies to steer clients away from violence, demonstrating the program's effectiveness.
Notably, Gresham recently celebrated 478 days without a youth-involved shooting, a testament to the positive impact of IMOBI's initiatives. Despite facing challenges earlier in the year, the program's commitment to understanding and addressing the root causes of youth violence remains crucial. The ongoing support for IMOBI is essential to continue fostering a safer, more connected community for all.
