The Big E Bay event returned to Grand Prairie for its eighth year, uniting over 1,500 volunteers in a massive spring cleaning initiative. This one-day event, which has become a hallmark of community spirit, saw participants from city departments, local businesses, civic groups, and schools come together to assist residents in need. Long-time resident Betty Hasty expressed her gratitude, stating, "It's so wonderful when you can't take care of your yard... I just appreciate these nice people coming out and helping me."

The Big E Bay, inspired by a similar initiative at Texas A&M University, emphasizes the importance of neighbors helping neighbors. City leaders highlighted the involvement of younger generations, with middle school students actively participating in the cleanup. "It's very important that we have our young people involved because they understand the impact of giving back to the community," noted one volunteer.

In addition to the community service, the Grand Prairie City Council is moving forward with plans to revitalize downtown by demolishing the old City Hall annex and Finance Administration Building. This redevelopment aims to introduce new housing, retail, and entertainment options to the area. City officials acknowledged the challenges of repurposing the old structures, citing safety concerns due to asbestos and the high costs of renovation. The next phase of demolition will also include the old Calvary Baptist church buildings as part of this ambitious project.
