Northborough officials are strategizing to secure vital funding for community projects following a recent government meeting. The town is eligible for a total of $500,000 over four years, which officials plan to request in full. However, a previous request for $11.85 million faced significant pushback from the Financial Planning and Appropriations Committees, leading to a revised ask of $1.1 million. Despite this reduction, the committees did not recommend approval at the upcoming town meeting.
To move forward, town leaders recognize the need to effectively communicate the project's benefits to residents, aiming to counter the committees' recommendations. Additionally, the committee is seeking support for a grant application tied to the downtown revitalization plan, which could provide up to $3 million. Officials are considering a more modest request of $600,000 to $750,000 to enhance the application's attractiveness.
As the town prepares for the upcoming meeting, the focus remains on rallying community support and securing necessary funding to advance these critical projects.
