Congratulations were in order at the Harlingen CISD Board Meeting on March 18, 2025, as the spotlight shone on five exceptional students recognized for their achievements in music. The Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All State Students were celebrated for their remarkable performances at a prestigious convention in San Antonio, attended by around 30,000 music educators and community members.
Kara Hoeflinger, who presented the recognition, highlighted that this honor represents the pinnacle of achievement for students in Texas music programs. The students showcased their talents under the guidance of esteemed conductors, performing at an elite level that only the top 2% of over 57,000 competitors could reach.

Subscribe for Free Among the honorees was Jamila Escobar, who earned first chair placement in the mixed choir, the highest accolade possible. Other standout students included Mary Dela Lou Sendoval, who performed on flute, and Angel Charles, who secured second chair in the All State Jazz Band. Adam Hernandez and Mihael Silguero also received accolades for their contributions to the music program.
Hoeflinger shared a poignant quote from Escobar, who expressed how music brought color to her life during challenging times, emphasizing the profound impact of the arts on personal development. The board members and audience members were invited to capture the moment with photos, celebrating not just the students' achievements but also the dedication and hard work that led them to this prestigious recognition.
