The City of Moorhead's Human Rights Commission meeting on March 19, 2025, highlighted several upcoming community events aimed at promoting diversity, mental health awareness, and cultural engagement.
Commissioner Rajas received commendation for successfully inviting speakers, including representatives from the Girl Scouts, to foster dialogue within the community. The meeting also served as a platform to announce significant events that will take place in the coming weeks.
One of the key highlights is the 34th Annual Powwow, organized by The Woodlands and High Plains, scheduled for April 5 from 12 PM to 10 PM. This event is free for students in grades K-12, as well as for elders and veterans, while adults can attend for a nominal fee of $5.
Additionally, the Global Market Day will occur on April 8 at 5 PM at the Umcomm Center, featuring local vendors such as Tea's Tacos and Maria's Homestyle Mexican. This event aims to celebrate local businesses and foster community connections.
Another important initiative is the Mental Health Day in the Park, organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Moorhead, set for April 26 from 10 AM to 2 PM at Viking Ship Park. This free event will gather over 12 local mental health organizations, providing a valuable opportunity for residents to connect and learn about mental health resources.
The meeting also mentioned a Town Hall event featuring the Attorney General of Minnesota at MSUM on Saturday, as well as a lecture by Holocaust historian Dr. Reyes at Concordia, addressing current global tensions.
These events reflect the commission's commitment to enhancing community engagement and support for diverse populations in Moorhead, paving the way for a more inclusive and informed community.
