The upcoming Pluto Fest in Streeter, Illinois, is set to be a vibrant celebration, featuring a mix of entertainment, local flavors, and community spirit. Scheduled for September 13, 2025, the festival will include a petting zoo, a local beer tasting, and for the first time, a wine tasting event. This annual event, organized by the Streeter Hardscrabble Alliance and the Lions Club, not only serves as a major fundraiser but also honors Clyde W. Tombaugh, the American astronomer who discovered Pluto.
The festival takes over a four-square-block city park, attracting visitors from across LaSalle County. While exact attendance numbers are hard to track, the event is known to significantly boost local businesses, including restaurants and retailers. This year, the festival will feature live music from Ray's Rockets, appealing to an older crowd with tunes from the late fifties to early seventies, alongside activities for younger attendees, such as pony rides.
In addition to Pluto Fest, the meeting highlighted the Poco a Poco Summer Music Fest, a week-long music training program running from June 7 to June 14, 2025. Founded by Streeter native Kate Tombaugh, the festival has grown to include over 100 students from multiple states, offering free public events and financial assistance to 70% of participants. The program aims to inspire young musicians and enrich the local community through music.
Both events underscore the commitment of Streeter's leaders to foster community engagement and promote local culture, with plans for marketing support to attract visitors from beyond the immediate area. The approval of funding for promotional materials was unanimously supported, signaling strong community backing for these initiatives.
