Woodland Park honors grandpa Terry with dedicated celebration day

The Woodland Park City Council celebrated the dedication of a beloved community member during their March 20, 2025, meeting by declaring the day "Grandpa Terry Day." This honor recognizes Terry Hanyan for his unwavering support of local high school soccer teams over the past decade.

Cindy, a representative from the soccer community, presented the resolution after receiving heartfelt letters from 20 high school soccer players who wanted to express their gratitude. Hanyan, affectionately known as "Grandpa Terry," has been a constant presence at practices and games, providing snacks, drinks, and gifts to the athletes, regardless of the weather or distance.

Tim Seacker, another community member, shared his personal experiences with Hanyan, highlighting the respect and admiration he commands from the young athletes. Seacker noted that Hanyan's commitment to the teams began with his granddaughter's involvement and has continued long after her graduation. He described Hanyan as a "great member of the Woodland Park High School family" and acknowledged his service as a Vietnam veteran.

The council's resolution not only honors Hanyan's contributions but also reinforces the importance of community support in fostering youth sports.
