Tennessee recognizes Damon Hollis and Montana Mickelson for wildlife conservation efforts

Damon Hollis received the prestigious Joe Kurz Excellence in Wildlife Management Award for his outstanding efforts in supporting wild turkey populations. As a forest manager, Hollis has been instrumental in habitat improvement projects, securing over $800,000 in grants for timber stand enhancements. His innovative approaches have not only saved the agency significant funds but have also fostered a thriving environment for turkeys and other wildlife. His commitment to mentoring fellow staff and participating in turkey population studies further underscores his dedication to conservation.

Montana Mickelson was honored as the 2024 Shikar Safari Outstanding Wildlife Officer of the Year for Tennessee. His exemplary service includes extensive law enforcement efforts, community engagement, and wildlife education initiatives. Over the past year, Mickelson has made significant contributions, including enforcing fishing regulations, conducting educational programs for over 800 students, and collaborating with local law enforcement during critical incidents. His proactive approach and positive attitude have earned him multiple accolades, including recognition as the National Wild Turkey Officer of the Year.
