A new VyStar Credit Union is set to replace the former BB&T Bank at Peachtree Crossing Shopping Center, as revealed during the Peachtree City Planning Commission meeting on October 28, 2024. The proposal includes demolishing the existing structure and constructing a modern 2,800 square foot building, complete with 24 parking spaces, significantly enhancing the site’s landscaping and compliance with current development standards.
The site, located along Highway 54, will undergo a complete redevelopment, addressing previous nonconformities such as inadequate parking and buffer zones. The new design features a 60-foot landscape buffer, which is a substantial improvement over the existing 25-foot buffer. The project aims to create a more inviting environment while reducing impervious surfaces, a move praised by commissioners for its positive environmental impact.
Bob Corley, representing VyStar, emphasized the credit union's commitment to community service, noting that it operates differently from traditional banks by offering personalized services and competitive rates. The design incorporates neutral tones and modern materials, aligning with the architectural aesthetics of surrounding businesses, including Fresh Market and Wells Fargo.
The commission expressed support for the project, with discussions highlighting the importance of maintaining a cohesive look within the shopping center. A suggestion was made to adjust the color scheme of the building to ensure it blends seamlessly with its neighbors. The planning staff recommended approval of the site plan and elevations, marking a significant step forward for VyStar's entry into the Peachtree City community.
