Peachtree City is set to enhance its community planning efforts following a significant discussion during the city council meeting on January 2, 2025. The council reviewed the progress made since the early 2000s when the city faced financial challenges and a lack of vision. A pivotal moment came in 2015 with the launch of the Fayette Visioning initiative, which aimed to engage citizens and community leaders in identifying projects to improve the area.

One of the key outcomes from this initiative was the successful passage of the 2017 SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax), which funded various community projects, including the much-needed replacement of children's playgrounds and the addition of over 10 miles of trails. These improvements are part of a broader strategy to enhance recreational facilities and connectivity within Peachtree City.

During the meeting, the council also discussed the importance of a comprehensive recreation master plan, which was approved two and a half years ago. This plan is now ready for implementation, and the council expressed hope that it would be handed over to the recreation advisory group to guide future community planning efforts.

In addition to these developments, the council addressed the statewide floating homestead exemption, HB 581. Following a town hall meeting held in December, where approximately 40 citizens participated, the council gathered valuable feedback on the proposed exemption. With a deadline approaching on March 1, city staff emphasized the need for a clear direction from the council regarding this matter.
