The Sabatus Primary School is set to close as part of a significant consolidation plan approved by the Department of Education, which aims to streamline operations and address pressing capital improvement needs. During a recent public hearing, school officials outlined the decision to close Sabatus Primary while keeping Libby Tozier School open, citing capacity and resource management as key factors.
The consolidation committee, which conducted thorough assessments of both schools, determined that Libby Tozier could accommodate the students and staff from Sabatus without reducing teaching positions. "We cannot close both schools because we can't fit in," explained a school representative, emphasizing that the plan ensures no reduction in teaching staff across grades.
The transition will see students from Sabatus Primary integrated into Libby Tozier and Carrie Ricker schools, with careful planning to maintain educational quality. The staffing structure will remain robust, with a principal, ten teachers, and support staff in place to meet the needs of the students. Notably, pre-kindergarten classes will be relocated to Carrie Ricker, providing a dedicated space for early learners.
Officials reassured the community that the consolidation is designed to optimize resources and enhance educational services. "This is what the consolidation is helping," they stated, highlighting the benefits of having staff and resources concentrated in two nearby locations. The school district is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will provide updates and additional information as the process unfolds.
