Subscribe for Free Superintendent Green presented the proposal, emphasizing that First Student will assist with up to 70 routes across key schools, including KC Elementary, Obama Magnet, and several middle schools. This partnership is expected to alleviate pressure on the district's current drivers, who number around 35 but ideally should be closer to 85 to meet demand. The collaboration is designed to ensure timely arrivals and departures, a critical concern for parents and students alike.
Key performance indicators (KPIs) will be established to monitor First Student's effectiveness, including GPS tracking for buses and daily reports on driver attendance. The district retains oversight of routing, ensuring that First Student adheres to the same standards and guidelines as the district's own operations. If performance standards are not met, the district has the right to withhold payments, reinforcing accountability.
Concerns about potential competition for drivers between the district and First Student were addressed, with assurances that both parties will communicate to prevent poaching of staff. This reciprocal agreement aims to foster a collaborative environment while enhancing service delivery.
In addition to the transportation partnership, the board also approved a lease agreement for a mobile home and recreation vehicle park, ensuring continuity of operations at the site.
As Jackson Public Schools moves forward with these initiatives, the focus remains on improving transportation efficiency and ensuring that students arrive at school on time, a goal that has become increasingly critical in recent years.
