Superintendent Jankowski outlines bond progress and upcoming school renovations

The Anchor Bay Board held its regular meeting on March 12, 2025, focusing on various updates regarding school activities and ongoing construction projects.

In the meeting, it was highlighted that all elementary schools are actively celebrating March's Reading Month with engaging activities designed to encourage student participation in reading. Notable events include performances by middle and high school jazz bands on March 18, and an exotic animal assembly scheduled for the same day. Additionally, schools are collecting no-sew blankets for children's hospitals and hosting a school-wide talent show throughout the month, with performances shared during daily announcements.

Superintendent Jankowski provided an update on the district's bond projects, indicating that the district is on track with its budget and timeline. The bond, totaling $169 million, is approximately 20% utilized after two years. Upcoming renovations include improvements at Lighthouse and Middle School North, where classrooms are being enlarged to better accommodate students. A new playground is also planned for Middle School North, featuring various recreational facilities based on student feedback.

Other significant projects discussed include a complete reroofing of the high school and the installation of an integrated communication system across all buildings. This system will enhance safety measures by providing real-time alerts and updates during emergencies.

The meeting concluded with a positive note on community engagement, as various fundraising efforts, including a recent charity week that raised $1,200 for Canines for Warriors, were acknowledged. The board emphasized the importance of these initiatives in fostering a supportive school environment.
