Deborah Mazlowski has officially been appointed as the new financial leader of the Springfield School District, following the retirement of longtime financial director Don Mooney. The school board unanimously approved her employment contract during the monthly meeting on October 24, 2024, marking a significant transition for the district.

Board members expressed enthusiasm for Mazlowski's appointment, highlighting her extensive experience working alongside Mooney. "Debbie is all financial all the time," one member noted, emphasizing her qualifications and readiness to take on the role. The contract is necessary due to legal requirements surrounding financial responsibilities, ensuring that Mazlowski operates under her own agreement rather than a general contract.

The board's vote was swift and decisive, with all nine members in favor of the motion. "Congratulations, Debbie," was the resounding sentiment as the board welcomed her to the forefront of the district's financial operations.

In addition to the leadership change, the meeting also touched on updates from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU), which reported a successful start to the school year, including new mentorship opportunities for health science students and a STEAM camp for middle schoolers. The next DCIU board meeting is scheduled for November 6.
